Formal Driven Shooting
This is obviously the classic way to enjoy shooting on an agricultural estate, with a full team of beaters and pickers-up with their dogs.
A typical day starts at around 9.00 am in the ‘guns mess’. Here we lay on tea and coffee to warm up at the start of those cold winter days. After a brief team talk it’s off to the first drive, which can be anywhere up to a mile away. We usually manage three or four drives before lunch.
Lunch is a sit down meal provided by a smart and friendly local pub. The afternoon usually consists of two or three more drives, and sloe gin is served at least once.
The day ends back where it started in the guns’ mess, where a cup of tea or coffee and a sit down awaits.
So much for a typical driven day at Morghew, but we can arrange days to suit our clients’ exact wishes. For instance, if a team wants to vary the start time and then take its time over lunch in a local hotel or restaurant, then this can easily be arranged.
And what does it all cost? For driven days above 100 birds the price is £30 per bird plus VAT. However we also offer a mini driven 100 bird days at £28 per bird plus VAT where lunch is taken on straw bales in our barn.
The target bag is agreed with the team captain at the time of booking, and estate staff are responsible for counting the shots fired as well as gathering and counting the bag.
This ‘per bird’ charge is the only charge we make for a typical Morghew day (as described above), and it covers the cost of beaters, estate transport and all refreshments. However we ask guns to consider a tip for the keeper at the end of the day
